Reflection on Ameer Salem’s presentation

Reflection on Ameer Salem’s presentation

Date: Wednesday 23rd May 2012

Venue: W007

Time: 1130

Topic: obesity

Introduction: Ameer started his presentation by asking us about the meaning of obesity.

Then he showed a body mass index (BMI); it measures the body fat based on height and weight that applies to adult men and women. I did not have any idea about BMI. Then he showed overweight and obesity worldwide, now estimated to involve 1.7 billion   people. That study is by Prof. Philip James.

Then he showed reasons and solutions about obesity and discussed all points in a comfortable manner.
He asked and answered questions confidently.

Both body language and eye contact were confident.

New things which I learnt:

Now I know if anyone is obese by using the body mass index.
People who are overweight, are exposed to many diseases easily.
Overweight and obesity worldwide now is estimated to involve 1.7 billion   people.

presentation reflection

Wed 25/04/2012 Khaled and Salem at 11:00am presented about Muslim scholars

Khaled introduced the presentation clearly, which Khaled controlled surely, with the watchers during the presentation. There was much new information. For example I learnt  about Ibn Al Hitham the father of the laser and most inventions now in the world were first invented by Muslims.

The slides were nice, beautiful & educational and the video of the 101 inventions was good.
I had many questions but the video answered my questions.

Voice: strong and organized.

English: so far so good. Body language and eye contact:confident.

Overall: it took all my attention and it was interesting.

Problem: students live far away from college (ADMC)

Date and time of meeting: March 14, 2012 at 11:00 am

Venue: W007

Group members:

·Chair: Yousef

·Minute taker: Khalid

·Participant: Ameer

Venue preparation:

v Grouping of chairs round table.

Agenda:

1)    Build another branch outside Abu Dhabi

2) Change the time to start the classes after the peak time.

3) Give students who live far from ADMC more time for being late.

4) College provides transport (buses).

5) Increase number of online courses.

Build another branch outside Abu Dhabi

Ameer said it’s important and useful like Zayed University and ADWC. They built another branch outside Abu Dhabi in Khalifa City.

Hedley thought that ADMC has space to expand and this solution will be in the future.

Yousef said this solution gives more chance to accept more students in the new branch outside Abu Dhabi.

Change the time to start the classes after the peak time.

All Government departments and companies start at 8:00 am at the same time as the college.

Ameer said I leave my home at 7:00 am to reach the college at 8:00 am because I face heavy traffic on the way to the college. Also, sometimes there are accidents which impede traffic that make the student late.

Hedley agreed with this idea.

Give students who live far from ADMC more time for being late.

Hedley said I am not strict with the late in the morning classes. Ameer said I had an accident 3 days ago and I was half an hour late for the math class. Then I showed my teacher the paper for the accident but he marked me late.

College provides transport (buses).

Yousef said as you know all students have cars and make traffic jams. So the college should provide transport for the students. Hedley said do you think students will leave their cars and come by bus. Yousef said if I always come late I will come by bus, because the college will be responsible.

  Increase number of online courses.

Khaled said this is the important point in the problem. Increase number of online courses to help students to do some homework at home.

Hedley suggested the college could teach a part of this course online such as submit reflections and reports online because we are in HCT.
